The Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, in an interview with Radio Svoboda, highlighted the priorities in working with the new Polish government, particularly regarding historical issues, cooperation on refugees, and attitudes toward the Volyn tragedy.
The ambassador said that a key area of cooperation between the Ukrainian and Polish sides will be historical issues, including the Volyn tragedy. This involves an open dialogue with the new Polish administration, headed by President Karol Nawrocki. Bodnar noted that such topics remain important for bilateral relations. He emphasized the need to resolve historical misunderstandings and to promote constructive communication between the countries.
Diaspora Activity and Long-Distance Diplomacy
In a conversation with Radio Svoboda, Bodnar mentioned that his interview was recorded while he was in Ukraine at the Great Ambassadors' Meeting. He clarified that the protests near the embassy included appeals from the Ukrainian community to the Polish authorities. The protest sentiments were conveyed to Kyiv, even though the diplomat was physically in Ukraine. This demonstrated their active stance and the importance of such appeals for the Ukrainian community abroad.

Combating Prejudice and Restoring Trust
Bodnar also raised the issue of anti-Ukrainian sentiments, stressing that the current situation requires preventing prejudice. He recalled the 'reversed history' — openly controversial interpretations of events that can undermine relations. The ambassador emphasized the importance of restoring mutual trust and respect between Ukrainians and Poles. He called this a necessary component for stability and the development of regional partnership.
Ambassador Vasyl Bodnar's interview outlines three key directions: mutual recognition of historical issues (including the Volyn tragedy), active communication with the Ukrainian community, and combating anti-Ukrainian sentiments in Poland. Overall efforts are aimed at establishing open dialogue, overcoming historical barriers, and strengthening bilateral cooperation based on facts and mutual respect.
