US President Donald Trump has announced a change in the deadline he is giving Russia to peacefully resolve the war against Ukraine. Instead of the previously stated 50 days, he is now setting a deadline of 10-12 days.
He made this statement on July 28 during a press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. According to Trump, there is no point in waiting any longer, as there has been no progress from Russia. He explained that he wanted to be generous by offering a longer deadline, but has now decided to act more quickly.
Trump also noted that he has lost interest in personal communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Although he emphasized that he previously had good relations with the Russian leader, the situation changed after further attacks on Ukrainian cities. The US President recalled that after several promising conversations with Putin about a possible truce, Russia resumed missile strikes. This, he said, undermined trust in the Russian side. That is why Trump is currently not seeking to restore direct contacts with the Kremlin.

Trump Threatens to Crush Russia's Economy with Sanctions
In addition, Trump drew attention to the economic situation in Russia. He stressed that the Russian economy is experiencing tough times and is spending significant resources on the war. According to the US President, despite possessing vast natural resources, Russia is not using its potential for development, but instead is directing finances to military actions. He described the Russian economy as "relatively small" and no longer as strong as it once was. In Trump's opinion, this is one of the factors that could influence the further course of the conflict.

Sanctions and Tariffs: New US Economic Pressure on Russia
Earlier, on July 14, Trump announced the possible introduction of secondary tariffs against Russia's trading partners if a peace agreement is not reached. At that time, he stated that the tariffs would be 100 percent. At the latest press conference, he clarified that this refers not only to economic duties but also to additional sanctions. Thus, the Trump administration continues to put pressure on Russia through diplomatic and economic levers, demanding an end to hostilities.
Trump's statements indicate increased US pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine. The new short deadline—10-12 days—is intended to be a test for the Kremlin's diplomatic efforts. In the absence of progress, the US reserves the right to take tough economic measures.
